J.W.Allen (GS) Letters 3.9.15. Bomb dropped in a trench by a nervous soldier. A Sgt. picked it up and threw it over the parapet saving many lives. No award because the troops were not in action at the time. The Sgt's bravery was "if anything much greater" than that of an officer who got a V.C. for a similar action.
