Lord Haldane's letters to Sir Edmund Gosse are very intimate documents, mentioning his studies, the visitors to Cloan, including Dean Inge, Sir James Barrie, and many other notable people, and also conveying his opinion of other eminent men and women: the Earl of Oxford and Asquith, and Lady Margot, Sir Austen Chamberlain, and Ramsay Macdonald.
