This jam-packed day of FREE workshops will give you all the knowledge you need to break into the museums, galleries and archives sector. Get practical advice on identifying and communicating your skills in your applications, insider knowledge on how to ace that interview, and handy tips for finding your dream job. Plus, meet a panel of sector professionals, hear about what they actually do and pick their brains for any secret top tips!
You can book onto any, or all, of the Getting into Museums, Galleries and Archives Careers workshops. The schedule for the day is:
Session 1: Transferable Skills and Applications, 09:30 - 10:30
Do you find it difficult to articulate the skills you’ve gained from the variety of experiences you’ve had? This workshop will help you identify your skills and communicate them to potential employers during the application process.
Session 2: Meet the Professionals, 10:45 - 11:45
Join museum, gallery and collections professionals to hear about their roles and career journeys. Come prepared with your questions as there will be plenty of time to pick their brains.
Session 3: Networking and Speculative & Creative Approaches to your Job Search, 13:00 - 14:15
This workshop will highlight the importance of both face-to-face and LinkedIn for networking purposes, as well as provide ideas and advice on speculative and creative job search approaches.
Session 4: Interview Skills, 14:30 - 15:30
This workshop will focus on the different type of questions you could be asked at interview and the strategies for answering these. We will talk about what the employer wishes to see from your answers and give you a chance to have a go at some “speed interviewing”.
