There are 2 signatories: Le Courueru, about whom nothing, it seems, is known, and Guillotin, who is probably the doctor and famous Parliamentarian who gave his name to the guillotine. He became associated with it because of his campaign for a more merciful method of execution of criminals and was nearly a victim of it when he himself fell under suspicion. His judgement was in demand on many matters and he instigated some notable reforms. In his later years he worked for the improvement of medicine.
