Note: The letter dated 7 July 1906 is a copy in the handwriting of Sir Edmund Gosse. Bound with transcripts in 3 vols. lettered THOMAS HARDY LETTERS. The above revised total now includes an undated postcard. According to Dr. Millgate, this postcard belongs with the envelope postmarked 18 June 1904 in vol.2 of the Hardy-Gosse letters, and has now been inserted there with accordingly. - Sep 1974. One letter is a post-script on the back of a letter from Florence Hardy. A letter of 25 July 1906 is a copy by Gosse, of which the original passed into the possession of Mr Howard Bliss. At the end of volume 3 are letters from Mrs Florence Hardy, two telegrams from Macmillan's about Gosse acting as a pall-bearer at the funeral of Hardy at Westminster Abbey, and a letter from Daniel Macmillan on the same subject. The whole are bound in three volumes in half brown leather. In most cases the envelopes in Hardy's handwriting are preserved, sometimes the envelope without the letter. Typed transcripts
accompany the originals.
