Maps and atlases
Search the Library for maps and atlases. You can filter your search by selecting “Resource Type” and then “Maps”. You can also browse a number of useful map websites.
Before using a map in your work, always check its copyright permissions and include all necessary references.
Atlases
Contemporary atlases are available in the Edward Boyle Library. Historic atlases are available in the Brotherton Library. Check the item record in Library search for full details and locations.
Ordnance Survey maps
The following Ordnance Survey maps are available in our Libraries:
- Explorer map series 1:25000 (Laidlaw Library)
- Landranger map series 1: 50000 (Laidlaw Library)
- 1-inch map of Great Britain: national grid seventh series, 1952–1972 (Special Collections)
- 1-inch maps, 1968–1970 (Laidlaw Library)

You can also find historic maps in our Special Collections (the Whitaker Collection).
