Library collection development and management
The Library's approach to developing and managing its collections is driven by the Collections Strategy (PDF) and the Collection Development and Management Policy (PDF).
Individual subject collections are managed at school and departmental level, in line with the overall policy above. Contact your faculty team librarian for more information.
For further information about Library collection development and management policy contact Maureen Pinder.
Resource Allocation Model
The Library budget for books, journals and electronic resources is allocated according to the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). Each school is given an allocation and decides how this budget is spent.
Details of the allocation for each school are sent to departmental library representatives in April each year. Final decisions on journal subscriptions need to be confirmed by the end of June. Contact your faculty team librarian for more information.
Stock editing
To ensure optimal use of space, the Library undertakes a regular programme of stock editing. Items withdrawn from stock are passed to second-hand book dealers where possible.
The Library consults individual schools about any stock editing which affects their collections. Details of collections that are about to be reviewed are listed on our webpages.
