New Associate Director appointment

Dr Jenny Haynes has been appointed as the new Associate Director: Cultural Collections and Curatorial Practices.

Jenny will be joining the Libraries from Wellcome Collection where she currently holds the role of Head of Collections & Research. With a research background in women's history and the social history of medicine, Jenny has previously held archive posts at a range of organisations including The National Archives, The Women's Library and The Institute of Education.

University Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection, Masud Khokhar, said: “I am delighted that Jenny has accepted this important position with us. I am extremely excited about the passion, experience, and expertise that Jenny brings to us, and I am looking forward to working closely with her. I am confident that Jenny will lead our cultural collections and curatorial teams to support our ambitious vision for 2030, Knowledge for All.”

The role will lead on key strategic objectives in the Libraries vision for our cultural collections and advance our approach for curatorial practices. These objectives include delivering thought-provoking and inspiring cultural experiences, developing programmes that bring our galleries, special collections and public art to a global audience.

To be able to work with the team to ensure that the full power of those amazing collections is unleashed to create change in the world is a thrilling opportunity. I can’t wait!

Increasing the global reach and impact of our cultural collections to inspire new knowledge relies on improving the discoverability of our collections.

Jenny will join University of Leeds Libraries from 9 October 2023.
