Celebrate Women's History Month with the Libraries

Who runs the world?
It's Women's History Month, a time to celebrate women's achievements and contributions through the years. This March, the Libraries are getting involved with a series of events to help amplify women's stories and encourage discussions on gender equality.
Check out the Women's History collection
We’ve set up a display of books exploring women's stories from around the world, including historical documentations and fictional novels. It’s available at Laidlaw Library until 31 March, so come have a look and pick up a book! You can also check out the full collection with over 100 titles online through our featured collection and our reading list.
Read up and speak up – Join this month's read-along
Join our read-along event this month (7–22 March) as we explore Beryl, a story that celebrates one of the most complex, enigmatic, and compelling characters in cycling history: Beryl Burton. The book is specially commissioned as an adaptation of Maxine Peake's acclaimed 2012 Radio 4 play and marks her stage-writing debut.
Physical copies of the book can be borrowed from the Libraries, while the electronic version can be accessed on Overdrive. The radio play is also available on Box of Broadcast, which you can access for free with your University login. To get involved, start reading and join the discussion forum.
Get artsy, get angry
Over at the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery, Animated Activism: Women Empowered is an exhibition to get angry about. Explore 50 years of feminism through the archives of Leeds Animation Workshop and Women’s Aid organisations. You could also join the launch of a new oral history project by Feminist Archive North, and a student-exclusive Make It Social: Collage & Zine-Making event, both of which are free to attend!
Finally, explore a range of amazing artworks from women artists at The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, with paintings by Judith Tucker, Mary Fedden and Wilhemina Barns-Graham on display now.
