Important Changes to the University Publications Policy

Join our event to learn more about amendments to the Publications Policy.
There have been changes made to the University Publications Policy, now known as the Research Outputs Policy, in line with wider University goals.
The policy, that outlines the University of Leeds’ approach to research outputs storage and dissemination, has been amended in alignment with open access principles.
In April 2025 the Research and Innovation Board approved three updates to the University Publications Policy:
- extending rights retention to chapters in books
- extending the policy to all staff who conduct research
- renaming of the Publications Policy to the Research Outputs Policy.
For more information on the changes and who is affected, read the newly worded Research Outputs Policy.
In its Research Culture statement, the University has outlined its commitment to ensuring the outputs of all research are freely accessible to maximise the potential for economic, social and cultural impact. Moving towards open access will enhance the reach and reproducibility of research as well as facilitate interdisciplinary and international collaboration. Application of these changes will also support production of high-quality research.
Register for our online event further exploring policy updates. The session, on Thursday 29 May, will also cover the extension of the rights retention element of the policy to individual chapters in edited collections and will give you the opportunity to ask questions.
