Get to grips with the Libraries
Quickstart is your key to unlocking the Libraries, accessing your reading lists, finding e-resources and borrowing books. It also has a useful guide to Library Search, the starting point in discovering research, revision and reading list items, an essential skill for student life.
Academic skills
Our Skills@Library service offers one-to-one appointments and a full online workshop calendar to help you develop your academic skills. Workshops include critical thinking, essay writing techniques, public speaking and loads more.
The Skills Space in Laidlaw Library is home to all our skills services, including the Writing Space, where you can get peer-to-peer support on academic writing.
Maths and statistics support is available through one-to-one sessions. It’s a great chance to engage directly with our dedicated learning advisors on any of the questions you have about maths or statistics in your subject.
First year: Get your Flying Start
An indispensable resource for any first-year student. Studying at university is a change of gears, but Flying Start takes you into the fast lane. It covers what to expect in your first term, independent learning, referencing, how to tackle those fearsome first assessments and how to access the wealth of academic support available from your Libraries.
Second year: Find out what it takes to achieve Second Year Success
You’ve smashed first year. Well done! But with pass/fail behind you, it’s time to get serious. Second Year Success gives you the tools you’ll need to take on this new challenge and build an ironclad foundation for your future.
