Writing Chinese: a new open access journal
Call for submissions opens for the new White Rose University Press open access peer-reviewed journal.
Published by White Rose University Press, Writing Chinese: A Journal of Contemporary Sinophone Literature (WCJ) will showcase the latest peer-reviewed academic research on contemporary Chinese-language literature and its translation and global reception, alongside features on practitioners.
The articles published by WCJ will join the growing pool of high-quality scholarship available globally without financial barrier
The journal’s editorial team is based in the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing, with Dr Sarah Dodd and Dr Frances Weightman as Editors-in-Chief. They lead an international Editorial Board featuring researchers from Princeton University, Beijing Normal University and the British Museum.

The inaugural issue will feature keynote articles by Professor Bonnie S. McDougall (Honorary Professor in Chinese Studies at the University of Sydney and Professor Emeritus at the University of Edinburgh) and renowned poet, academic, and translator Xi Chuan 西川 (Beijing University).
In future editions, there will be newly commissioned English translations of recent academic papers in Chinese, and reviews of Chinese language academic monographs related to the journal’s focus.
