Margaret Hannay

A landscape and figure painter, Margaret Hannay was the daughter of Arnold and Alys M.Hannay, and the sister of Alexander Howard Hannay (1889-1955), art critic of the London Mercury, who published Roger Fry and Other Essays in 1937. She studied at the Slade. She married the eminent national and international civil servant and academic Cecil Delisle Burns (1879-1942) in 1912. The obituary notice for Cecil Delisle Burns in The Times says of Margaret, who survived him, that she was "a gifted painter and etcher" (The Times, January 23 1942). They had two sons.
