George Washington Moon (1823-1909)

George Washington Moon was born in London in 1823 and educated at a private school in Barnet. He wrote a number of poetical works as well as several books and pamphlets on English grammar and usage. The latter often focussed critically on the language used by various contemporary writers (including the translators of the Revised Standard Version of the Bible) and this led to a number of counter-attacks and ongoing controversies. Moon died in 1909.
