Gregory Fellows in Music

Kenneth Leighton was a British composer and pianist. Born in Wakefield he was a chorister at Wakefield Cathedral and studied at Queens College, Oxford, winning a Hastings Scholarship and later a Mendelssohn Scholarship which he used to study in Rome. On return from Italy he held the Gregory Fellow in music from 1953 to 1956 and then became Fellow in Music at Worcester College, Oxford. In 1970 he moved to Edinburgh as Reid Professor of Music.

Peter Nash grew up in Suffold and studied music at Cambridge. Awarded the Gregory Fellowship in 1976-1978 he later became first Composer-in-residence at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies. Work continued with commissions from the Aldeburgh festival, compositions for the Nash Ensemble and soprano Jane Manning and the BBC.
