Emily Haikney (she/her)

Profile

I am the Learning Advisor for the School of Medicine, providing in-curriculum academic literacies development for taught students. I have been working in the Learning Development team since 2015, before which I was a Research Support Advisor in the Library’s Research Support Team.

I specialise in academic integrity and am also working on a project exploring how generative artificial intelligence intersects with academic literacies development. I co-authored the Academic Integrity Tutorial and Test, released in 2023, and worked with colleagues to produce further Academic Integrity Tutorial units for year 2, year 3 and postgraduate taught students, launched in Autumn 2024.

I sit on the University's Working Group on Artificial Intelligence in Student Education, the Digital Capabilities Working Group (where I also co-lead the Artificial Intelligence sub-group) and the Academic Integrity Leads Network. Within the Library I lead the Referencing, Academic Integrity and EndNote working group.

I have worked on projects related to digital literacies throughout my time at Leeds, producing the Studying in a Digital Age online resources and the Library’s “becoming an online learner” pages (designed to support students during the rapid transition to online learning in 2020). I recently collaborated with colleagues to develop online resources and workshops for supporting students to explore generative AI tools and use them responsibly.

I was a co-organiser of the Academic Skills Network for several years, hosting events at the University for colleagues working in academic skills at Leeds and neighbouring institutions.

I am the Membership Officer for the University of Leeds Branch of the UCU in 2024-25.
