Profile

A computer scientist by education, Masud is passionate about digital leadership and innovation in the changing higher education environment. His core interests cut across the topics of strategic leadership, digital transformation, user experience, learning spaces, library and IT services, and developing innovation cultures.

Masud joined the University of Leeds in 2021 and has had a varied career with senior roles in the private sector and higher education, including at the Bodleian Libraries (University of Oxford), Lancaster University, and the University of York. Between 2023 and 2025, Masud took on the additional responsibility of Director of Learning Spaces to develop the strategic delivery programme for education spaces at the University of Leeds.

In 2025 he was appointed as the University’s first Chief Digital & Information Officer, with a remit to explore opportunities for bringing our IT and Library services closer together, building on existing service strengths, and establishing a service-focused culture. These opportunities have led to the development of the Digital and Information Services (DAIS) directorate, which includes Libraries and IT Services. DAIS acts as the University’s digital and information partner and is responsible for supporting and accelerating the University’s strategy and Artificial Intelligence goals.
