DawsonEra ebooks at risk
A key ebooks supplier has gone into administration with potential loss of access to some titles.
Update: Over 99% of the items previously held on DawsonEra have now been transferred onto the VLeBooks platform.
One of our ebooks suppliers, DawsonEra, has gone into administration. The DawsonEra platform has more than 17,000 titles across a range of subjects. These are currently still available, but we do not know how long this platform will remain online.
If you have created an account and made any notes, highlights or annotations, please log in to DawsonEra and save these in another location as soon as possible. They will not be available after the platform is taken offline and will not transfer to alternative platforms.
We have already started the process of transferring titles to other ebook platforms to minimise any gaps in access. We are prioritising items accessed within the last year and are working to identify which reading list items are affected. Our aim is for all key ebook texts to be available for the new academic year and to ensure minimal disruption to reading lists.
There are additional costs to provide these ebooks on alternative platforms because of the way publishers charge us for their ebooks. In some cases, we will have to buy the texts again or pay a surcharge to access the content from a different supplier. This could cause delay in reinstating some well-used titles and may prevent us from restoring access to the full DawsonEra list.
You can identify DawsonEra items as they have a note on the full record in the Library Search catalogue.
