Ready? Let’s do this!

Where...?

Where can you find the space you need for your study and revision? Whether you've been a regular library lurker all year or you've always wondered what that big building with all the books is, you’ll find your place in one of our libraries this term.

  • Laidlaw 24-hour opening continues throughout the assessment period.
  • Edward Boyle and Laidlaw will remain open on the Coronation Bank Holiday (8 May). After that, all sites will open until the year's end, including the 29/30 May bank holiday. See all our opening hours.
  • Check out Spacefinder. This site has every study space on campus with adjustable search criteria, listing everything from group working to calm atmosphere and nearby coffee. You might just find your new secret spot that is just what you need.
  • If you need a group study space or need accessible study rooms, check out our help page on how to book a room.
  • Look out for the library whiteboards at each site. We will update them with seat availability, helping you to find a study space more quickly at busy times.
  • If you’re lost, confused or feeling stressed, library staff are here to help you. Just look for the green lanyards and friendly faces.

What...?

What do you need to know? What does this mean? What is going on?

Don’t worry. You’ve got this. And if you do feel like you might need just a little help to get you over the finish line, we’ve got a solid line-up of resources and workshops that will take your assessment ability to the next level.

  • The Writing Café is back! Our writing mentors are ready with tips, tricks and techniques to make the most of your academic writing. Drop-in sessions run every Tuesday and Wednesday 10am-1pm in the Skills Zone at Laidlaw Library. Find out more about the Writing Café.
  • Our Learning Development team are running workshops on how to write well when you’re under time limits. The first session is on Wednesday 3 May but if you miss this, don’t worry. You can still sign up for an online session on Thursday 11 May. Book now because these sessions go fast!
  • If you can’t make the workshops, never fear. Our online assessment resource page has everything you need to prepare for online tests. And for advice about in-person assessments, take a look at our revision and exam page.
  • If you have something specific you need help with, book a one-to-one academic skills appointment from Monday to Friday, 9:30am-4:15pm.
  • Check out our 10 tips for making it through exam day.

How...?

How are you feeling? You have read all the advice, spent hours revising and have stacks and stacks of notes. Feeling good and excited to show what you know? Feeling anxious and not sure you’ve done enough? We know assessments are as tough emotionally as they are academically, and we want you to know we’re looking out for you. Ask for help. It’s what we’re here for.

  • The Library Makerspace is now open in the Edward Boyle Library. Our creative tech hub is packed with equipment you can play and experiment with.
  • Our galleries are a great place to take some time out for inspirational distraction. Come along to one of our creative events including the Sketching Clubs or Pen to Paper creative writing sessions. This is the perfect place to relieve some stress in a creative and calm atmosphere.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for big purple chairs popping up in our campus libraries that create little wellbeing areas, so you can take five away from the books. Every Wednesday we will feature a different activity to take your mind off exams and to help you de-stress. Activities include mindfulness colouring, origami folding, dot to dots and word searches, Makerspace speirographs and sudoku.
  • If you are feeling overwhelmed, or just need someone to listen, the University offers same day Wellbeing drop-in sessions to help you with emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • For a complete list of mental health and wellbeing resources check out the For Students page on mental health support. Leeds University Union also have plenty of support at your disposal.

You’ve got this. But if you need any help, remember, just ask.
