400 for 400 Leeds Wiki Campaign
The Libraries need you to celebrate a city-wide celebration!
In 2026, the city of Leeds celebrates 400 years since it received the first royal charter, giving the city the right to self-governance.
To celebrate this occasion, the Libraries are taking to Wikipedia. And we need your help.
We want staff and students to collectively make 400 edits to Wikipedia's information about the city of Leeds. This campaign runs over the year, and we hope to have all 400 edits recorded and implemented by December 2026.
The University of Leeds is a vital source of information, research and history. By encouraging the people in the University community to contribute to Wikipedia, this vital knowledge can be shared on a global scale, putting Leeds firmly on the open knowledge map.
Leeds is a city with centuries of vibrant history, culture and innovation. People who live and work here know more about it than anyone else - and Wiki helps them share it. What better way to celebrate Leeds at 400 than by making the internet a little better than we found it?
To find out more about this campaign, check out the 400 for 400 Leeds wiki page, which includes a short video on how to create a Wikipedia account. We’ll update this page throughout the campaign with check-ins and more support for editors.
