A collection of Marks & Spencer shop signs

A unique and fascinating resource for your research

Visit the M&S Company Archive on the University campus and take advantage of its wealth of research material.

International retailer Marks & Spencer houses its corporate archive in the Michael Marks Building on the Western Campus.

The entire corporate archive is open to academic research. A reading-room service offers students, academics and the general public direct access to items within the collection, facilitating detailed study and unique areas of research.

The archive is a fantastic resource, particularly for students of business, communications studies, design, fashion, history, marketing or food and textile technology.

The collection includes:

  • Documents, reports, letters, speeches, employee magazines, annual reports and advertising leaflets
  • Photographs, films and oral history recordings
  • Clothing, food packaging and merchandise from the days of the Penny Bazaar to the present.

Having the archive on campus offers a great opportunity for Leeds academics to get involved in an area of research that has so far been under-exploited. If you'd like to use the archive in your work, please get in touch.

The Michael Marks Building, University of Leeds, is located on the Western Campus at the corner of Woodsley Road and Clarendon Road, opposite Leeds University Business School.
