Visit Special Collections

Everyone is welcome to use Special Collections. Items are retrieved on demand, usually taking up to 15 minutes, except material stored off site (as indicated in the catalogue). Occasionally retrievals are suspended between 12pm and 2pm. It is advisable to check in advance of a visit.

Staff and students

You can use Special Collections without an appointment, but please contact us in advance if you wish to view University Archive material or items listed as restricted or not found on the catalogue.

Some Special Collections material is held at our Western Campus Store and must be requested in advance using the request function on the catalogue. You will be notified by email when this material is available to consult at Special Collections. Please bring your staff or student ID card.

Non-members of the University of Leeds

You must make an appointment to use any collection. Please bring photo ID with confirmation of signature and current address (eg passport or driving licence, University/ College ID, Library card, Bank card) on your first visit in order to register with us. You will be issued with a visitor pass to exit and re-enter the building for the length of your visit. You will be assigned a username and password to enable access to our catalogue PCs.

You can, search our catalogues and databases online in advance to aid your research. If you are travelling from a distance and have a limited timeframe then it may be possible to retrieve items in advance. Please contact us to discuss your options.
