'Them&[uz]' was first published in Planet magazine, issue 24/25, August 1974, as part of a three-poem sequence title 'From "The School of Eloquence"'. The other two poems were 'On Not Being Milton' and 'The Rhubarbarians' (then titled 'The School of Eloquence').
The text is very similar to the final published version, although there are several differences in the text, typesetting, and stanza breaks.
