The Library is your space
However you want to study and whatever you need to improve, we have the space for you.
You’re going to be spending a lot of time in the libraries. So, It’s handy to understand what’s in the library space and how you can get the most out of your new home from home.

Get into the zone in Silent Study
Most study spaces are for silent, independent study. You and your fellow students can crack on with plugging in your headphones and getting down to work. You can find silent study in:
- Levels 11 and 12 in the Edward Boyle Library
- All floors in the main Brotherton Library and Level 2 of the West Building
- Floors 1, 2 and 3 in the Laidlaw Library.
Collaborate with Group and Social Study
Whether it’s a group project or discussing a lecture, sometimes you need the space to work and chat with your classmates. There are bookable group study spaces, including rooms or booths, in every library.
Level 10 of the Edward Boyle Library is dedicated to social study. It’s open plan with lots of seats so you can chat openly about your work while you study with friends.
Levels 1 and 2 in the Laidlaw have lots of spaces where you can study in groups while Brotherton West Building has a variety of group space. Health Sciences Library has a large group room and the Wolfson Room.
Take Research to the next level on Level 13
Post-grad researchers have a dedicated space on Level 13 of Edward Boyle Library, home to Research@Library and the Research Hub. You’ll need your Student ID to get access, but it means you won’t be fighting undergraduates for space during busy periods.
You can also book individual study space (at the bottom of the page) and access lockers so your stuff is safe during those deep research sessions.
