Asylum seekers and refugees welcome
Displaced people can now freely study and access information at our University Libraries.
The Library has recently created the Academic Asylum Seekers and Refugee Access membership that grants asylum seekers and refugees free, year-long, reference access to the libraries.
Library membership provides access to vital research information and computers, as well as giving the opportunity to continue with their academic studies or research.
Membership is organised through referral from the Lifelong Learning Centre and university departments, and from local organisations such as:
- Leeds Asylum Seekers’ Support Network
- Mafwa
- Positive Action for Refugees & Asylum Seekers
- Migration Yorkshire
- Student Action for Refugees
Offering membership to forced migrants is just another step in the institution’s ongoing commitment to creating a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for displaced people.
The University has also funded Sanctuary Scholarships for forced migrants, as well as various institution engagement schemes and dedicated research.
