This medal was added to the Cabinet sometime after Willian Eyre’s death. Medal making originated as a form of art in Italy during the Renaissance, and they were often made as commemorative objects.

This medal of Winchester Cathedral shows the West front of the cathedral on one side and an interior perspective of the choir on the other. It may have been made as a presentation piece or perhaps simply to demonstrate the skill of the engraver.
