Statistics and data sources
Science statistics
We recommend you check the following sources for scientific statistics:
- Biology data book: numerical data of biology and medicine.
- Chemistry data book
- CRC handbook of chemistry and physics: respected handbook of authoritative, up-to-date data covering a wide range of chemical and physical properties.
- Food additives data book: information on preservatives, enzymes, gases, nutritive additives, emulsifiers, flour additives, acidulants, sequestrants, antioxidants, flavour enhancers, colour, sweeteners, polysaccharides and solvents.
- Food packaging and shelf life: a practical guide: provides information needed to specify just the right amount of protective packaging to maintain food quality and maximise shelf life.
- Food properties handbook: theoretical prediction models for different foods with processing conditions, descriptions of the applications of the properties, and coverage of where and how to use the data and models in food processing. Also includes data on sources of error in measurement techniques and experimental data from the literature.
- International critical tables of numerical data, physics, chemistry, and technology: data on physical, thermodynamic, mechanical and other key properties. It is a major reference source used by those in chemistry, physics, and engineering.
- International Energy Agency: comprehensive energy production and consumption information (covers most countries).
- Landolt-Börnstein: Numerical data and functional relationships in science and technology: compilation of all kinds of numerical data, including: units and constants, elementary particles, condensed matter, physical chemistry, geophysics, astrophysics, biophysics, advanced materials.
- MAGIC: data on key environmental schemes and designations (for use with standard GIS tools).
- National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), USA: publically available databases for the field of biomedicine. See full list of NCBI data sets.
- NERC Data Catalogue Service (DCS): search the catalogue to discover and gain access to NERC's data holdings and information products.
- NOAA National Climatic Data Center: world's largest active archive of weather data, including national and global data sets.
- UK National Chemical Database Service: access to selected data sources, including the Cambridge Structural Database, the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database, ACD/I-Lab2, SPRESIWeb, ChemSpider and Accelrys' Available Chemicals Directory.
- USDA national nutrient database for standard reference: major source of food composition data in the United States. It provides the foundation for most food composition databases in the public and private sectors.
