These databases are available for use by Leeds staff and students both on and off-site within the terms of the license agreements. Off-site users will need to login using their Leeds username and password.

ABI/Inform Collection

In-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Search full text of around 3,000 worldwide business periodicals including journal articles, market reports, industry reports and news.

Africa Portal is a research repository on African affairs. It is dedicated to publishing and promoting research and analysis from the African continent.

Communication & Mass Media Complete

Communication & Mass Media Complete (CMMC) offers full text and cover to cover indexing and abstracts for over 600 journals covering communication, mass media, linguistics, rhetoric, language, logic, and other closely related fields. This also includes over 400 full text journals, selected coverage of more than 170 journals and thousands of author profiles. Coverage dates back to 1900.

Dimensions

Dimensions is the world’s largest linked-research database, covering articles, grants, patents, clinical trials, datasets, policy documents and technical reports. It also provides research metrics. There is a free version open to all, or a subscription version.

You must register for an account with your Leeds email address to get full access, from a computer within the University’s IP range or through the virtual desktop. Once you are registered, you can access the database from off-campus. If you are a student, you can put “student” in the job title field.

EBSCO Business Source Premier

Subjects include business, management, economics, finance, accounting, international business and marketing. Search for journal articles, trade publications, country reports, industry information, company news and conference proceedings. Use the advanced search to narrow down the results, for example to academic journals. Some titles are subject to an embargo on their current content.

EconLit

Good for economics and related subjects such as accounting, consumer economics, monetary policy, labour economics, marketing, economic theory and planning. It includes essays, research papers, books, dissertations, book reviews and working papers, and it is easy to search by keyword. There are no full text articles on EconLit so you will need to search the Library Catalogue for the journal title to see if we have it. Coverage starts from 1886. This database is updated monthly.

EMIS Professional

EMIS provides news, research and data for over 125 emerging markets. It covers analysis on companies, industries and countries in emerging markets, and some established market.

FAME

A financial database of major public and private British companies, with financial analysis software. FAME covers over 9 million companies in the UK and Ireland and allows you to search by hundreds of criteria and by trends and over multiple years.

IBISWorld provides UK industry reports from across a wide range of sectors. It also includes historic industry reports and Brexit impact analysis.

IDEAS

IDEAS is a database dedicated to Economics and is freely available. It contains over 3.5 million research items from over 2,000 archives, in 102 countries.

IHS Connect

IHS Connect (previously Global Insight) provides analysis and data for countries around the world. It includes in-depth special reports and an up-to-date analysis of political and economic risks. There is also specific coverage of the automotive industry across 180 countries.

J-Stage

J-STAGE is an electronic journal platform for STEM information in Japan, developed and managed by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). J-STAGE supports Japanese societies and research organisations, and has published more than 3,000 journals, conference proceedings and other academic publications.

JSTOR

JSTOR provides access to more than 10 million academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines including Art and Art History, Performing Arts, Architecture and Music.

Nexis

An excellent source of news information, including international newspapers, trade publications and company information. All articles are available in full text. You can to narrow down your search by limiting the dates or by choosing a specific set of newspapers. For example you can choose to search across all English language newspapers or just UK national newspapers. Updated daily.

Power Search Guide from Nexis Solutions

Onboard

Financial information on all live companies registered at the UK's Companies House, and information on over two million UK unincorporated businesses. PDF documents registered at Companies House are also available, including company annual reports. Search by company name, director, or by using the advanced search using criteria such as turnover, profit, ratios and many more. Updated daily.

Orbis

Orbis provides company financial information on more than 375 million international companies - both public and private companies.  Use Orbis to find, analyse and compare companies.  You can view a summary report for each company, or more detailed reports, news and original documents.  You can find M&A data, or for a more detailed M&A search use the database Zephyr.

Orbis Bank Focus

Provides detailed financial information, ratings and ownership information for over 38,000 banks worldwide. The first screen is the quick search, where you search for a bank by name. Expert search allows you to combine several criteria to search for a group of banks. Data can be exported as Word or Excel files. Coverage includes the latest 5 years of data for listed banks, and 3 years for unlisted banks.

Orbis Crossborder Investment

Orbis Crossborder Investment looks at globalisation via projects and deals and delivers information on the firms behind these investments – both listed and private. It allows users to identify emerging trends as well as analyse historical trends.  It tracks information daily, and monitors announced, completed and cancelled/withdrawn projects and deals, as well as rumours and intentions.  These include Greenfield FDI projects and crossborder M&A deals.

Orbis Intellectual Property contains global patent data on 1.97 million companies and corporate groups. It allows you to access data and firm-level patent statistics for 1.97 million firms.

Passport

Data and market research reports on consumer markets worldwide. It includes market analysis and statistics, forecasts, information on the top brands and companies in a country or sector, and overviews of the major market factors. Search either by keyword, or by using the headings at the top of the screen to choose the type of information. Updated monthly.

Scopus

Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature from more than 18,500 journals and quality web sources, with smart tools to track, analyse and visualize research. Coverage starts from 1823.

UK Data Service

A statistical database providing numerous datasets of information. It is made up of datasets from organisations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations (UN), World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). You must register with this service to access the statistics.

WARC

Intelligence on all areas of marketing communications. It includes over 45,000 papers, case studies, research reports, and news items covering all areas of marketing, advertising, communications, brand strategy and consumer behaviour. It is searchable by keyword. You may have to register your own details before you can search the full database.

Web of Science

Search for journal articles using three databases; Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. A current awareness service provides citation alerts for newly added journal articles. Each database is updated weekly.

World Bank Open Knowledge Repository

The World Bank Open Knowledge Repository (OKR) is the World Bank’s official open access repository for its research outputs and knowledge products. It contains thousands of research outputs on a wide range of topics and from all regions of the world.

Zephyr

Zephyr contains information on mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, joint ventures, private equity and venture capital deals and rumours, with five years of global coverage. It contains data on roughly 2 million M&A deals globally, is updated hourly, and uses alerts to track deals for you.
