These databases are available for use by Leeds staff and students both on and off-site within the terms of the license agreements. Off-site users will need to login using their Leeds username and password.

Key databases

Box of Broadcasts

BoB (Box of Broadcasts) National is a shared online off-air TV and radio recording service for UK higher and further education institutions. It enables you to choose and record any broadcast programme from 60+ TV and radio channels. The recorded programmes are then kept indefinitely and added to a growing media archive (currently at over 1 million programmes), with all content shared by users across all subscribing institutions.

British National Corpus

The British National Corpus (BNC) is a 100 million word collection of samples of real life language. The samples were chosen from a wide range of sources and are designed to represent a wide cross-section of British English from the later part of the 20th century. It includes speech (10%) as well as a wide variety of different kinds of written (90%) language.

IRIS Repository

IRIS is a repository of second language research instruments. It provides many different examples of research materials, all of which can be downloaded and used as they are, or adapted for your own research.

JSTOR provides access to more than 10 million academic journal articles, books, and primary sources in 75 disciplines including Art and Art History, Performing Arts, Architecture and Music.

Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA)

Linguistics and Language Behaviour Abstracts covers the international literature in all aspects of the study of language. This includes phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. The database indexes journal articles, books, dissertations and working papers from 1973 onwards.

MLA International Bibliography

Citations and some full text to articles and other materials for literature, language, linguistics, folklore and film. From 1926 onwards, and updated twice a year.

An excellent source of news information, including international newspapers, trade publications and company information. All articles are available in full text. You can to narrow down your search by limiting the dates or by choosing a specific set of newspapers. For example you can choose to search across all English language newspapers or just UK national newspapers. Updated daily.

Scopus

Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature from more than 18,500 journals and quality web sources, with smart tools to track, analyse and visualize research. Coverage starts from 1823.

Web of Science

Search for journal articles using three databases; Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. A current awareness service provides citation alerts for newly added journal articles. Each database is updated weekly.
