These databases are available for use by Leeds staff and students both on and off-site within the terms of the license agreements. Off-site users will need to login using their Leeds username and password.

Key databases


AES Electronic Library This is a full-text database from the AES (Audio Engineering Society - US) and has all the AES papers from the journal, conventions and conferences in PDF form from 1953 to the present. The AES is the only professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology.
Bridgeman Education Bridgeman Education is a complete visual resource offering over 1,000,000 digital images of art, history and culture from global museums, galleries, private collections and contemporary artists all copyright cleared for educational use. Due to technical limitations, Bridgeman Education is only available on campus, or through Desktop Anywhere. Guide to using Bridgeman Education
Dimensions Dimensions is the world’s largest linked-research database, covering articles, grants, patents, clinical trials, datasets, policy documents and technical reports. It also provides research metrics. There is a free version open to all, or a subscription version. You must register for an account with your Leeds email address to get full access, from a computer within the University’s IP range or through the virtual desktop. Once you are registered, you can access the database from off-campus. If you are a student, you can put “student” in the job title field. Guide to using Dimensions
FAME A financial database of major public and private British companies, with financial analysis software. FAME covers over 9 million companies in the UK and Ireland and allows you to search by hundreds of criteria and by trends and over multiple years. Guide to using FAME
IBISWorld IBISWorld provides UK industry reports from across a wide range of sectors. It also includes historic industry reports and Brexit impact analysis. Guide to using IBISWorld
Naxos Music Library Search for and listen to over 160,000 works of music, including classical music, jazz, world, folk and Chinese music. Full text notes on the works being played as well as biographical information on composers or artists are also available. This database is updated monthly.
Nexis An excellent source of news information, including international newspapers, trade publications and company information. All articles are available in full text. You can to narrow down your search by limiting the dates or by choosing a specific set of newspapers. For example you can choose to search across all English language newspapers or just UK national newspapers. Updated daily. Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Search for full text biographies of all notable deceased public figures who have influenced British history and culture. Useful for any subject. The database is updated three times a year. The printed volumes of all editions and supplemental volumes are shelved in the Brotherton Library General Reference Collection. Oxford Music Online Allows searching of the Oxford Dictionary of Music, Oxford Companion to Music and Grove Music Online. The Oxford Companion to Music offers more than 8,000 articles on composers, performers, conductors, instruments and notation, forms and genres, and individual works. The Oxford Dictionary of Music, 2nd edition (revised 2006), supplements Grove's more extensive articles with content aimed at undergraduates and general users. Guide to using Oxford Music Online
PsycINFO Contains journal articles, books, dissertations and theses in core psychology disciplines, behavioural sciences and mental health. It covers 1881 to the present day. A current awareness service provides alerts for newly added content. Updated weekly. Advanced PsychINFO workbook
Rock's Backpages An online library of pop music journalism, covering 50 years of rock'n'roll history, with a discussion forum, links to audio interviews and a selection of specialist websites. Articles are in full text and categorised by genre.
Scopus Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature from more than 18,500 journals and quality web sources, with smart tools to track, analyse and visualize research. Coverage starts from 1823. Guide to using Scopus
Web of Science Search for journal articles using three databases; Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index and Arts and Humanities Citation Index.
