Building facilities
Access and car parking
Information about access and the nearest disabled car parking for each site can be found on our access and car parking page.
Step-free access
There is step-free access throughout each sites. We have an accessible route through campus marked on the interactive campus map. To view it, click on the Walks/Routes tab at the bottom of the map.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome in all Library buildings. There are spending facilities for assistance dogs located on campus.
Accessible toilets and Changing Places
All sites have accessible toilets. The Laidlaw Library also has a Changing Places facility on the ground floor.
To use the ground floor accessible toilets and Changing Places facility in the Laidlaw Library, you will need to use an access fob programmed by Estates and Facilities, or ask for a keycard from reception. If you require an access fob, please contact Disability Services.
Library clusters equipment
We have the following equipment available from our reception and enquiry desks:
- coloured paper
- headphones
- portable hearing loops.
Library PCs have dictation, text to speech and Immersive Reader tools through Office 365.
You can also use Apps Anywhere to access Mindview, MindGenius and Texthelp Read&Write on cluster PCs.
Hearing loops
Each site has induction (hearing) loops at enquiry and reception points. Infrared hard of hearing systems have been installed in several training and study rooms in the campus libraries. Portable units are available to loan out from reception and enquiry desks.
Hearing loop locations:
- Brotherton: room 2.03 (group study room)
- Edward Boyle: level 13 meeting room
- Health Sciences: reception
- Laidlaw: reception and enquiry desks, group rooms 1–7 and accessible study rooms 1 and 2.
Height adjustable desks are available in each sites. Please ask a member of staff if you would like to know where these are or how to use them.
