Borrowing, assistance and accessible material

Your student or staff ID allows you to borrow items from our collection. Visit the Borrow, Renew, Return pages for more information on standard loans.

If you need any on-site assistance finding the item you are looking for, please ask a member of staff.

Personal Assistance

If you have a personal assistant who is not a University of Leeds student or member of staff, we can arrange for them to have a library card. We can also set up a proxy library card so that someone can check out items on your behalf.

Please email the Library disability contacts to set up these cards.

Retrieval Service

If you would prefer to pick up an item from a particular site, please contact us with:

  • details of the item, including the title, year or edition, and the author’s full name.
  • your name, student or staff number and contact information.
  • the site you would like to collect from.

Postal loans and returns

Visit our postal loans page for more information about how to have items posted to you and how to return them. There is no charge for this service.

Accessible Material

If you need to access any print material in an alternative format, the RNIB Transcription Service can obtain or produce accessible versions of books. Unfortunately not every request is successful.

If you would like an item in print that is only available as an e-resource, you can make a Document Supply request. Please note in the “additional information” section of the form that your request is for accessibility reasons.

Please ask a member of staff if you require our Library information leaflets or guides in an alternative format.
