British Library

The British Library has Reading Rooms at their Boston Spa and St Pancras sites.

The Research Collection at Boston Spa, near Wetherby, holds over seven million items and hosts the Library's major collections of British and overseas newspapers.

St Pancras (Central London) has 11 Reading Rooms, each specialising in different subject areas.

To use either of these you must register for a Reader Pass (for which you will need two forms of identification).

SCONUL Access is an agreement between most higher education libraries in the UK. You can check which libraries are members of the scheme on the SCONUL website.

Full-time undergraduates can use the libraries of most universities in the scheme for reference only.

If you are a member of academic staff, a full- or part-time postgraduate, or a distance-learning or placement student, you will usually be able to borrow from other libraries.

You can apply for authorisation to visit another library via the SCONUL website. If your application is approved you will be sent an email authorisation, which you will need to print out and take with you to the library (or libraries) you wish to visit, along with your staff or student ID.

Please contact us if you need help with this.

The University of Leeds is a member of SCONUL Access.

SCONUL Vacation Access

Undergraduates and taught postgraduates of the University of Leeds may use the libraries of other participating UK universities during their vacations for reference only.

You do not need to apply to SCONUL for vacation access, but you will need to take your Leeds student card.

Check in advance the vacation dates of the library you plan to visit, as they may differ from ours.
