Who can use the Library

External visitors

We are open to external visitors who have an information or study need that can be met by our facilities and which merits ongoing access.

Annual membership with borrowing rights costs £200 (£100 concessionary rate – please for more information on eligibility)

To register please bring a completed membership form (PDF) with photo ID and proof of address to any library reception desk during core hours.

Library access is restricted to staff and students of the University of Leeds during revision weeks and exam periods; two weeks in January and five weeks in May.

What you can borrow

External users are entitled to:

  • borrow four books for two weeks
  • borrow four 1-day loan items (not High Demand items)
  • use the Library's reference collections, periodicals, and photocopying facilities.

Membership does not include access to Leeds University student computing facilities. A small number of Library computers are available for visitors, which offer access to the internet and restricted access to some Library electronic resources.

Please note that access is restricted to University of Leeds staff and students during exam periods.

Day visitors

You can still use the library on a one-off day visitor basis if you have an information or study need that can only be met by using our resources.
