The Brotherton archives research material collected by notable people, and contains the archive of the Leeds ‘socialist pioneer and local historian’ Alf Mattison.

Mattison had an obvious interest in the work of the socialist and Arts and Crafts pioneer William Morris, and a folder of material on Morris collected by Mattison is part of the Leeds Brotherton collection. “Images as illustrations of Morris’ work as a citizen and craftsman” contains the image of Psyche in Charon’s boat from Earthly Paradise and important research notes.
