Help in person for taught students
Writing Space
Where is the Writing Space?
The Writing Space is on the ground floor of the Laidlaw Library.
Open every weekday afternoon, 1–4pm during teaching weeks (30 September – 13 December 2024.)
All taught students are welcome, there is no need to book, just come along and get writing!
What is the Writing Space for?
The Writing Space is a welcoming and empowering space for you to enhance your writing skills. You can come and spend a few hours working on your writing with like-minded students in a friendly and communal environment. This can help if you’re feeling isolated, unmotivated, or if you have writer’s block. Best of all, if you get stuck the Writing Mentors are on hand to help.
What help is available?
You can get quick and friendly support from our Academic Writing Mentors, who are all current Leeds students.
They can provide guidance on:
- finding and evaluating sources
- reading and take effective notes
- structuring and planning your work
- making your writing critical and clear.
So, if you would like a second opinion on your ideas or someone to answer a quick query, our mentors are there to help you navigate through the writing process.
What isn’t covered in the Writing Space?
The Writing Mentors can't advise on the content of your work as they are not subject specialists.
They are committed to the University's Proofreading Policy (PDF) and therefore do not provide a proofreading service. They can't re-write parts of your assignment for you or offer a quick-fix for a deadline that is approaching. If you need further support please contact your module or personal tutor.
