Increase research visibility

How can the Libraries support you?

The Research Visibility service provides guidance and support for staff and PGRs relating to raising research visibility before, during and after research has been undertaken. This support is provided at faculty, school and individual level through training sessions and online resources.

Examples of the support we provide

Open research:

  • open access publishing, including understanding the different routes available, using Symplectic to deposit author accepted manuscripts to the White Rose Research Repository (WRRO) as well as Article Processing Charges and transitional agreements
  • information and guidance to ensure that your research and data is as open, accessible and inclusive as possible.

Research identifiers:

  • support to further understand research identifiers, specifically ORCID
  • benefits of using researcher identifiers and linking them to your Symplectic account.

Research analytics:

  • identifying current and potential collaborators, including individual authors, institutions and countries
  • deciding where to publish within your field.

Disseminating research:

  • guidance on ways to disseminate your research to the public as well as those in academia (creating and curating online profiles, blogging, podcasting, writing public-facing articles, liaising with the media).

Attend a training session

There are regular sessions for PGRs dedicated to learning more about how to increase your research visibility. See our programme of events, book a place or access previous session recordings.

Training for staff is more bespoke and organised by the Research Visibility service liaising with a school or faculty. We can then ascertain which areas of research visibility to focus on depending on the need, which will inevitably vary across disciplines and career stage of the staff attending the sessions.

Research Profile Bootcamp

Both staff and PGRs can benefit from our biannual Research Profile Bootcamp event, which takes place over a week and brings together a variety of sessions all dedicated to helping researchers to increase the visibility of their research.

You can access support and practical guidance shared at the 2025 event in our Research Profile Bootcamp YouTube playlist.

Enquiries and consultations

For more individual enquiries relating to research visibility, please email the Research Visibility service via research@library.leeds.ac.uk and a member of the team will respond to you as soon as possible.

If we are unable to provide appropriate guidance and support via email or signpost you to relevant online resources, we can arrange a consultation with a member of the team.

Our consultations are organised according to the availability of team members and so last-minute consultations may not be possible. The nature of your enquiry and the timescales involved might also limit when we can offer a consultation.
