Increase research visibility
Before you start your research
Before you start your project, you can prepare to make your research more discoverable and make sure it’s attributed to you.
Use an ORCID iD
Link all your research together by setting up an ORCID iD. An ORCID iD is a persistent digital identifier that:
- distinguishes you from other researchers
- proactively connects your research outputs
- increases discoverability.
Once you have an ORCID iD you can use it to connect yourself to your research outputs and increase your discoverability across many search tools. Use it whenever you share your work, for example when you submit a manuscript or publish a dataset, and include it on your personal and social media profiles.
Set up online profiles
You can use a variety of social media platforms to promote your research, encourage conversation and reach your intended audience. Popular platforms include LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Academia.edu and X (Twitter). You can your track social engagement with the Altmetric "donut" on the publication record in White Rose Research Online.

Consider collaborations
You may also want to consider widening your list of collaborators. Research shows that papers with more than one author receive more citations. International collaborations can be particularly valuable and may also result in increased citations.
The Research Services team can help you to analyse your existing collaborations and to identify potential new collaborators, understanding that approaches to collaboration can differ between disciplines.
