These resources can help with the essential digital capabilities needed for your studies and day-to-day life. Some of them also provide an opportunity to explore skills that might be less familiar, such as coding.

Jisc Discovery Tool

You can find more questions to help you evaluate your digital capabilities in the Jisc Discovery Tool, which also contains a wide range of resources to develop the digital skills and knowledge that are most important to you.

Student IT Induction

The IT induction has “all the information you need to make the most of the IT facilities at the University of Leeds”. This includes Eduroam (wireless network), Minerva (virtual learning environment), libraries, printing and timetabling services.

Digital Education Systems Help site

Digital Education Systems provide Student Guides for most of the key systems and software that you will use for your group learning, independent study and assessments, including:

• Ally (allows you to convert module material to alternative or more accessible formats)
• Mediasite (part of the university’s lecture capture system)
• Turnitin (used to check the academic integrity of assignments and provide feedback and grades).

Linkedin Learning

LinkedIn Learning covers a wide range of topics and software, from Microsoft 365 apps such as Word or Excel to media production tools and techniques. These courses and videos are presented by experts, including some from the University of Leeds. They are free to access with your student account.

FutureLearn

FutureLearn offers an extensive range of online courses from leading universities and organisations. Students at the University of Leeds have free access to FutureLearn Campus

FutureLearn Campus provides unlimited access to all courses and you can choose to complete tests and receive a digital Certificate of Achievement for particular courses. Sign in with the domain name (eg leeds.ac.uk) and then select the ‘Get free upgrade’ option when you join a course.

Computer Programming for Everyone

The University of Leeds FutureLearn courses that can help you to develop your understanding of digital tools include Computer Programming for Everyone, produced in collaboration with the Institute for Coding. This explores how and why people program computers and allows you to put your learning into practice by writing your first computer programs.
