Open access explained

What copyright or licences apply

Open access content is made available under various licences, which define how your material can be used, shared and adapted. The licence may be determined by authors, publishers or funders.

Your funder may have specific licensing requirements. Check your funder’s licensing requirements on Sherpa Juliet.

Creative Commons (CC) licences

The majority of open access publications are made available through Creative Commons licences.

These licences stipulate specific conditions for how works can be adapted, shared or reused.
