EndNote Online guide
EndNote Online guide
EndNote Online is the web version of EndNote. You can use EndNote Online as a way to:
- use different devices on and off-campus (eg a university computer on campus, a Mac off-campus)
- add to and edit your references through a web browser
- share a library with others (eg for a group project).
You might choose to use EndNote Online as the only way of managing your references (on and off campus), but be aware that it has fewer features than the desktop version.
In this guide you will learn how to:
- Sign up for an EndNote Online account and sync your desktop and online library
- Add references to your EndNote Online library
- Create citations and references in Word
- Create a standalone bibliography
- Share your library and collaborate.
Sign up for EndNote Online
You will need to sign up for an EndNote Online account before you can use it to manage and store your references.
Top recommendation: create your account on campus
We recommend that you create your EndNote Online account on campus using a university computer, as this automatically associates your online account with the University of Leeds, which gives you 5GB of storage as well as access to the Leeds referencing styles.
Go to EndNote Online and click on the option to "Sign up for an account". Do not choose “Sign in via your institution”.
Off-campus account creation
If you are off-campus and unable to do this, you can use the Windows Virtual Desktop on your personal device to create your EndNote Online account.
If you have already created your EndNote Online account off campus, you can link your account to the university by logging into EndNote Online when you are next on campus, preferably via a university computer rather than a personal device. You can also log into EndNote Online while using the Windows Virtual Desktop to link your account to the university.
You can use your EndNote Online account off-campus for a year after you have created it. If you log into EndNote Online on campus or on the Windows Virtual Desktop again at any time during that year, your account will be reactivated to give you another 12 months access from that date.
Go to EndNote Online and click on the option to "Sign up for an account". Do not choose “Sign in via your institution”.
